Nachhaltigkeitsbericht 2025:

As a company that produces Print Products in a wide variety of forms on a daily basis and processes many tons of printing material, we are aware of our responsibility for the protection of the forest landscape and sustainability. Our FSC®certification allows us to ensure that the products we use come from responsibly and sustainably managed forests and that labor and health standards are met in their production in accordance with the guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council®.

Sustainability is included at Gutenberg AG, meaning that every order is automatically executed with a climate contribution. We have been a certified ClimatePartner since spring 2024 and have committed ourselves to making an active contribution to the environment. We rely on biogas and LiStrom alpin (100% hydropower, produced in the region), use climate-neutral printing materials, and support various climate protection projects. In cooperation with SpediFux, the climate-neutral transport company of Liechtensteinische Post AG, we also ensure that large shipments are not only produced sustainably but also delivered sustainably.

However, with the abundance of terms and certificates, it is not easy to keep track of everything, which is why we are happy to help you clarify things.

«Made in Liechtenstein»

Gutenberg AG views sustainable production as a commitment. Since 2012, we have consistently relied on sustainable energy sources, such as the use of 100% biogas for heating. Biogas as a renewable energy source, is nearly CO²-neutral, making it an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional energy sources. Our biogas, or the “green” environmentally and climate-friendly energy “made in Liechtenstein” is produced at the wastewater treatment plant (ARA) in Bendern.

Another component of our sustainability strategy is the use of LiStrom alpin, a power product specifically developed by LKW for businesses. The energy mix is made up 100 percent renewable energy, source from hydroelectric power in the Canton of Grisons and Vorarlberg. The conscious decision to use LiStrom alpin underscores our commitment to a sustainable future.

Our Contribution to
Climate Protection

We hold the ClimatePartner certification and meet all 5 steps in climate protection:
  • Step 1: Calculate Carbon Footprints
  • Step 2: Set Reduction Goals
  • Step 3: Implement Reduction Measures
  • Step 4: Finance Climate Protection Projects
  • Step 5: Communicate Transparently
For 2026, Gutenberg AG is supporting a combined project contributing to the financing of a certified climate protection project and additionally supporting global marine conservation. Currently, marine conservation is being combined with a certified cookstove project in India. Currently, marine conservation is being combined with a certified cookstove project in India. These cookstoves require significantly less wood, thereby reducing deforestation and saving emissions. In addition to reducing emissions, the project also improves the living conditions of participating households: indoor air pollution is significantly reduced, and thanks to the more efficient stoves, the time spent cooking and collecting firewood is significantly reduced, especially for women. Similar combinations have been implemented in the past with solar energy projects in Namibia and India, as well as other cookstove projects.
  • SDG 1 – No poverty
  • SDG 3 – Good health and well-being
  • SDG 5 – Gender equality
  • SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Development
  • SDG 10 – Reduced inequalities
  • SDG 11 – Sustainable cities and communities
  • SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production
  • SDG 14 – Life below water
  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the goals
For all print orders produced by us, we make an additional financial contribution to climate protection, at no extra cost to our customers. Through our selected climate protection projects in the field of renewable energies, we support structurally weak regions across Asia. These projects utilize wind energy, solar energy, hydropower, biogas, and biomass.

ClimatePartner stands for transparency in climate protection. Therefore, the organization assigns us a unique ID number, which, along with a tracking URL, leads to an informational website. Sustainability
Through Recycling and Regionality

Every production process generates waste. We collect this waste and feed it into the appropriate recycling process, ensuring that no valuable material is lost and that it is given a new purpose. This reduces the environmental impact and helps conserve resources.

In 2025, approximately 60 tons of paper waste, 2.7 tons of cardboard and corrugated board, and 2.5 tons of aluminum were recycled.

FSC® Certification –
Sustainable
Forest Management

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) is an international organization dedicated to the sustainable management of forests. It promotes forestry practices that aim for sustainable use, protect biodiversity, and operate transparently with the public and other organizations. FSC® is also committed to the rights and well-being of forest workers, ensuring fair wages and compliance with labor and health standards. In doing so, it contributes to all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

When we produce an order according to FSC® standards, we ensure that only FSC®-certified paper is used and that FSC® Chain-of-Custody standards are adhered to enabling traceability throughout the supply chain. This means that all suppliers and partners involved in an FSC® project must also present an FSC® certification. The certification is awarded following an audit by SQS and must be recertified annually.

Each year, we use around 200 tons of FSC-certified paper to produce our customers’ printed materials. This represents approximately 60% of the printed materials we produce for customer orders. Of these papers, 12 tons are certified recycled paper, and 27 tons come from CO2-neutral production. Customers can be assured that their printed materials come from responsibly managed forests and that the production chain is environmentally friendly.

Information Klimaschutzprojekte

Gutenberg AG makes a financial contribution to certified climate protection projects for its operational activities. This contribution aims to accelerate joint efforts to achieve global net-zero emissions and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The supported projects are regularly audited by independent third parties to ensure transparency and traceability. However, this financial contribution is not included in the corresponding greenhouse gas inventory and is not credited towards achieving the reduction target. Therefore, it has no impact on the carbon footprint of the certified product, company, or service.
