f.l.t.r.: Chiara Vonbun (Polygrapher FZ), Aaron Kaiser (Mediamatician FZ), Nina Kerber (Office Assistant BA)
It is with great pleasure that we report a significant milestone in our apprentice’s educational journey. Our three apprentices recently passed their final exams with flying colours, taking a significant step towards their professional careers. We are proud to recognise the hard work, determination and dedication they have shown throughout their apprenticeships.
Interview with the graduates
As part of our report on the successful graduates, we would now like to gain an even deeper insight into their apprenticeships and their formative experiences during their apprenticeship. In an exclusive interview, we asked our three graduates to tell us about their experiences, challenges and learning processes during their training.
How would you describe your apprenticeship to someone who has never heard of it?
Aaron: As a mediamatician, you deal intensively with digital media and everything related to it. Our tasks include producing animated explanatory videos, designing websites and optimizing search engine rankings. In addition, we develop and implement concepts for social media appearances. We are also responsible for creating content and use cameras, microphones and drones on site to carry out our work.
Chiara: As a polygrapher, I work in the printing industry and deal with the conception and production of printed products. My tasks include implementing graphic designs, selecting colors, fonts and images and preparing the print data. Our main goal is to produce high-quality printed products such as books, magazines, packaging and advertising materials.
Nina: As an office assistant, I work at the reception and perform a variety of tasks, including greeting and assisting guests, answering phone calls and replying to emails. I also manage incoming and outgoing mail and deal with the needs of both internal and external customers to the best of my ability.
Is there a particularly challenging task or a formative experience during your apprenticeship that you will always remember?
Aaron: For Büro Marxer Systeme AG, I was responsible for creating social media posts that were, according to their description, allowed to be “daring”. In one of these posts, I drew attention to the fact that there are hackers who place USB sticks with viruses in various places. When someone finds the stick and is curious to see what is on it, they plug it into their laptop and inadvertently infect it with a virus. The headline of the post was: “Don’t stick your thing everywhere!”.
Chiara: On one assignment, I was faced with the challenge of creating numerous difficult and different diagrams for a brochure. At first, it seemed almost impossible. But in the end, I gained fascinating new skills in diagram representation and now feel more confident for future projects. This experience showed me that things are often not as insurmountable as they initially seem.
Nina: One of the challenges in my job is to remain calm at all times, especially at reception, where I am often the first point of contact for complaints. Although most situations run smoothly, there are occasional customers who require a special dose of patience. Nevertheless, I can say that I have now learned to handle such situations well.
How do you feel about the diploma you now hold in your hands?
Aaron: When I successfully completed the IPA, I felt an immense relief lift from my shoulders. However, I was still a little nervous because I didn't know the grade yet. Now that I have my certificate in my hands, I am even happier. I have achieved my goal and I find myself in the golden book.
Chiara: Now that I have my successful diploma in my pocket, I feel a huge sense of relief and joy. At the same time, however, it is strange not to go to school or to have to focus on studying. It also feels strange not to see my classmates every week, but I am still incredibly proud of my performance and what I have achieved.
Nina: When I held my diploma in my hands, I felt a sense of relief and pride. I had set this result as a goal and worked hard for it, so it was a special moment for me.
What goals have you set for yourself for the coming years, both professionally and personally?
Aaron: For the coming year, my goal is to become head of the media design department at Gutenberg AG and to complete my training as an apprentice trainer. In addition, I plan to continue my education and study Multimedia Production part-time at the FHGR.
Chiara: Although I had originally planned to attend the BMS design course next year, I have decided to wait and see what the coming year has in store for me. I am also open to other possibilities and opportunities that may arise.
Nina: My primary goal now is to complete my FZ degree as best as possible. After that, I plan to continue my education. But above all, it is particularly important to me to maintain my health and to bring passion and heart and soul to everything I do.
